HOW WE FUND THE PROGRAMME - 3 EASY STEPS
The Athletes In Schools programme is funded through sponsorship and voluntary contributions raised by the schools we visit. Our aim is simple: to bring inspirational Olympians, Paralympians and Team GB athletes into schools, while helping to financially support elite athletes and raise additional funds for schools.
Each school selects the Athletes In Schools programme it would like to book, such as our Bronze, Silver or Gold programme. We then recruit a suitable athlete for the visit and create a dedicated fundraising page for the school to share with parents, families, friends and the wider school community.
The funds raised are used firstly to cover the agreed Participation Fee for the athlete visit. This helps cover the cost of delivering the programme, including financially supporting the athlete and enabling Athletes In Schools to continue bringing elite athletes into schools across the UK.
Once the Participation Fee has been reached, 60% of all additional eligible funds raised goes back to the school, with 40% retained by Athletes In Schools. The school's share can be used towards equipment, activities and future opportunities that benefit its pupils.
Our athletes also benefit directly from the programme. In addition to being paid for delivering their school visit, athletes can receive a share of the additional funds generated, helping to support the costs associated with training, competing and preparing for future major championships, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
If a campaign does not reach the agreed Participation Fee, Athletes In Schools may offer the school the opportunity to make a voluntary contribution towards the shortfall. Where this isn't possible, AIS may withdraw or reschedule the visit and arrange for funds to be refunded in accordance with the fundraising platform's processes.
Most importantly, fundraising is completely voluntary. No child will be excluded from an athlete visit because they or their family have not donated or raised money.

STEP 2 -LET'S SELECT YOUR ATHLETE
With over 150 elite athletes on our books, we want to find the perfect fit for your school. We’ll shortlist a selection of suitable athletes based on your school, chosen programme and visit date, and you’ll make the final choice. Once your athlete is confirmed, we’ll move on to setting up your school fundraising campaign.

Let’s work together to get pupils, parents and the wider school community excited about welcoming an Olympic or elite athlete into school. We’ll create a dedicated JustGiving fundraising page for your athlete visit and provide the school with everything needed to promote the campaign.
Once the Participation Fee has been covered, 60% of any additional funds raised goes directly back to the school, helping fund equipment, activities and future opportunities for pupils.
